Nellie Victoria uses American vegetable-tanned leather, jewelry-quality metalwork cast in New York and custom Riri zippers imported from Switzerland.
Each handbag is meticulously handcrafted in the US—and always will be.
About vegetable tanning:
Vegetable tanning is the oldest, most traditional tanning method in the world, and is becoming increasingly rare. Today, few tanneries in the US still practice this historic craft.
Free of chemicals and synthetic coatings, vegetable tanning uses a natural, eco-friendly process to produce a beautiful, durable finish, luxurious handfeel and distinctive character. Over time, vegetable-tanned leather will develop its own rich, unique patina.
About our signature hook-and-eye hardware:
Historically used in garments like the ones my grandmother made, the hook-and-eye closure makes two parts become whole. This is exactly how it functions in each of our styles, securing the wristlet inside the larger bag so it becomes an internal pocket.
This signature hardware is meticulously cast and polished by hand in the heart of Manhattan by a family-run jewelry company that has been perfecting their craft for nearly 25 years. We're proud to help another family carry their traditions forward.
About our packaging:
Reducing our carbon footprint is as important as supporting local jobs and family businesses. Our exclusive packaging is printed, constructed and hand-wrapped by a family-owned company in our home state of California.
